She told me she loved me.
A minute before, she told me she wanted to say it.
I told her she should.
So she did.
She's lied before, tested, prodded experimented. To
me to
others to
everyone.
I want her to trust me, while I wonder if I can trust her.
She told me she loved me.
It's what I wanted to hear.
So I believed her.

Essay: Let's Play DQV - P1
I should get this out of the way: I'm a gamer. Specifically I'm a gamer who spends money he doesn't have on games he won't be able to give himself the time to playthrough. However, this is mitigated by a few factors. A: I'm a college student and have a little more flexibility with my budget than I might otherwise, B: I'm getting a job (I hopes), C: I have saved a good deal of money due simply to the fact that I have never owned a mainstream console in my life. Instead, I play PC, GBA/GBC/DS games and emulate from time to time.
Even if money isn't an issue, time is. I have a huge backlog of games, and I often put one down to start another and another and another. To date: I've yet to finish the very first Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, owe myself another playthrough of KOTOR, have yet to buy Fallout 3, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Dragon Age or any number of countless PC Games. On the DS/GBA it's worse. Knights in the Nightmare, Etrian Odyssey, Contra 4, N+, Chrono Trigger, Yydgra Union, Riv

Contest: Waifly's End
Principal James Waifly woke up in darkness.
The Principal of Waifly Academy's first attempts to move gave him an idea of where he was: strapped to a table. A metal operating table. His operating table.
He'd been in the room enough times to recognize it: the neck strap had a bent grommet that would dig into the skin if the patient squirmed too much. It was an accident initially, a manufacturing defect. The Principle decided he liked it, and the restraint had never been repaired.
The lights flickered on.
He looked around, trying to find his captor. That mystery mastermind wasn't in the room:  instead, the principal saw a fully staffed operating room, technicians, surgeons, the full lot. He didn't try to reason with them: they were 'programmed' to accept a single set of orders, which, once given, could not be countermanded.
"Who did this?"
No response was forthcoming. A technician turned to his college, wordlessly motioned to an IV bag. A few seconds later, the principal's thras

Missing You - We've Never Met
I wake up in the morning, and the person who felt so close the night before is as far away as they've ever been.
As I drift through the day, I imagine phantom fingertips brushing against mine, feel the need to hold the warm hand that I have never seen or felt in my own.
When I dream, I dream of this person I have never seen. I love them, though I've never met them. My unseen other floats through my mind, and I wonder if they've thought of me the same way.
At night we talk for hours until I fall asleep, but never next to them.
When I sit down, I look at the seat next to me, and find it empty: the person who never sat there is missing.
--------
**********,
I love you

Chapter 1 - Keep in Line
"Keep in line," said the man at the counter.
I groaned out a sigh as I stood in line at the drug store checkout. Only one person was at the counter. Five people were ahead of me and only one was behind.
The one behind was a tittering young woman dressed in a black pantsuit. She hugged her phone like an extra appendage and said, "You just need to keep doing what you're doing..."
I shut my eyes a moment. The lights felt too harsh.
I'd just come in for some headache medication and lens cleaner for my glasses during my lunch break. My legs twitched under me and my back gave a little spasm. I couldn't believe I was less than halfway through the day.
The young woman continued talking but I couldn't make out all her words and it just became a rush of incomprehensible jabbering. I stopped trying to listen. Not like I'd glean anything useful from it anyway.
I kept in line behind a tall, middle-aged black man. He smiled at me and said, to no one i

The Bracelet of Change Part 1
The Bracelet of Change
A cat of golden fur fell from a blue, cloudless sky. It landed in a patch of tan sand between a busy hamburger ‘drive-thru’ and a sheriff’s office with black-tinted windows and walls the blank color of baked straw. Its legs bent on landing and it shook itself off. Nothing noticed the cat.
Its fur glimmered brightly in the afternoon sun. The patch of sand had been recently been torn up and abandoned by a failed construction project. A swirl of breeze lifted the top layer of sand and teased it around. The cat blinked against the brush of the wind with its also-golden eyes. It turned its head slowly and peered out at the pressure against its dancing whiskers. It gave a soft meow of satisfaction.
The cat peered ahead of it at the fence of widely-spaced, unfinished wood separating the sidewalk and the patch of sand. It moved quickly between one of the gaps and peered down both ends of the sidewalk and into a street. Traffic was stopped at a red light.
I

Of Bookstores Passed
Of Bookstores Passed
At four in the afternoon this last Tuesday, a bookstore closed in a town near me. It wasn't unexpected. Everyone knew about it from several weeks ago and even before then. It wasn't the nicest bookstore I'd ever seen. It wasn't the most homely. It wasn't particularly big. And sitting on the floor to glance through a book was taboo in this place.
At best, it reminded me of another bookstore which once existed very close to where I live. It was called Readmore Books. The logo in the front was a simple image of a child reading a book. It existed for as long as I could remember as a kid. It had the longest magazine rack I could imagine back then. It had everything. It was where I regularly bought issues of Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine. Opening them up, I would always dream of one day seeing one of my own stories in those magazines. The idea of a magazine like that inspired me to try and one story in a particular volume gave rise to my very first full-lengt

"I never expected that your husband would really turn into a teenage girl."
Holly brushed her hair back a few times nervously with her hand as Isabella looked her in the eye with tightly folded arms.
A few moments of silence passed before Holly continued her thought, "I mean it was my intent but…like trying to shoot the moon." She gave Isabella a careful little smile that she hoped would be infectious. Isabella's mouth didn't budge.
Holly leaned back in her couch and took a sip of the water she'd brought with her to the living room. She'd picked this location to talk to her friend. It had a cool, nice color to it and there was nothing pointed or dangerous anywhere in the room.
After a quick, room-filling cough, Holly shuffled her legs the other way and tapped them against the carpet. "You probably know that it was Richard who first presented the idea to me. He's always been curious…I'm sure you know."
Isabella only allowed herself a sigh but straightene

Don't Be Mad
Don’t Be Mad
I smirked and set my controller down after I gave another KO to my brother’s character. He grit his teeth and pressed his controller in his hands.
He was usually bigger and stronger than me but, in games, I had skill over his brute force button mashing.
He grumbled, “Lousy cheater…”
I grinned and purposely said, “I’m just better. But I’ll play one of the weaker characters so I don’t beat you quite as bad. “
His muscles tensed. “You’re gonna get it!”
He focused on the screen like his life depended on it. I was sure he was gonna break the controller in his hands. I didn’t mention to him that his brown hair was getting a little longer in the back. It was almost long enough to touch his shoulder.
With calm, I played defense and soon felled his character once. My brother curled a growl in his throat that seemed to get higher as he uttered it.
Round two was just as easy. He kept flailing his sword at me and I

The Bracelet of Change Part 2
He heard soft footfalls on the floor. He turned his head and saw a golden-furred cat ambling across the carpet. It paused halfway between him and the open door. As he looked at it, it seemed as though it were sneering at him. He could feel his baby sister roll out of Elinda’s grasp to play with his long hair.
Elinda and his mother gasped at the cat. His mother fluttered her hand and urged it, “Shoo! This isn’t your home. Did you leave the door open?”
Elinda assured her that she’d locked all the doors and wondered if it’d found a way in through the basement. Cal watched the cat’s golden eyes. Its tail flicked about in constant motion. He watched the air around it. It seemed to contort and shimmer, just like with the bracelet.
Disengaging himself from his relatives and the quilt, Cal stood up carefully, clutched ‘Muttsy’ under his arm, and told his mother, “I’ll take it outside.”
She nodded and said, “Be careful. Don’t
